self-assembly system

The furniture is straightforward and reliable to assemble. The trestles and seating uprights connect with M16 threads and nuts. The tops, braces/rails and shelves/backs are assembled with brackets, wood screws, bolts/nuts and Chicago binders. The kits are lovingly packaged in straw in recycled cardboard boxes, supplied with illustrated instructions and assembly tools, with hanging templates for the shelves.

The components are designed for the possibility of adaptation, the configuration system draws explicit lineage from constructivist toys - relational participatory design that fosters active co-authorship. Each furniture iteration is presented as a self-assembly kit that turns furniture assembly into a tactile game. The vertical components can be combined with various length horizontal components to create alternative sizes. The plywood is treated with beeswax and the kits are ready to be assembled. about birch plywood | about BZP steel | about beeswax | about our process
